At the W4UA summit, Roman Matys moderated a discussion on the recovery of Ukraine’s economy. Around the table were members of parliament and government, Polish-Ukrainian business experts, and representatives of academic and civic organisations.
Points that came up:
- so much money will come for rebuilding infrastructure that even international corporations will not be able to absorb it alone, so there will be work for everyone;
- no special tax regimes for business were planned at the time; the main task is to introduce solutions that already work in the EU;
- skilled people remain one of Ukraine’s main advantages;
- digitalisation has already made the country easier for business and reduces corruption risks;
- corporate social responsibility and the sustainable development goals should guide both business and government.
Polish experts stressed the risks for small and medium-sized businesses. Roman Matys believes Ukrainian SMEs need regulatory protection, or they may not survive competition with the international corporations that will come for reconstruction.
